Static leak...

I took EW to RGV at Gloucester this morning for the biennial IFR checks. I'm in the habit of getting involved in the maintenance, so watching from a distance was interesting.

If the checks had been straightforward they wouldn't have taken long, but it seems that there's a bit of a static leak somewhere so that needs to be tracked down and sorted first...

I'm only telling you this for interest's sake & not having a pop at RGV, as they're nice folks one of the few places that you can get IFR checks done. But make sure they fix the static tester onto the port securely as the last time I took an aircraft there, the sucker came off the static port at a simulated 20000 feet and so the pressure instruments all thought they had gone from that height to the ground almost instantly !! It was ok for the Altimeter that spun around like Billy Whiz on speed ! But it blew up the VSI with a 20000 ft/sec descent and I was stuck there until they could source another one! All part of flying's rich tapestry!
